Introduction

    Mr. Morse's eighth grade period C class is reading the book the Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes.  While reading this book you will read and learn about the Harlem Renaissance.  In addition, you will find out about the poets, novelists, and black political leaders that lived during the Harlem Renaissance.   In your final assignment for this web quest, you will write a poem about the Harlem Renaissance.

The Task

    It is presently 1935 and you are a young poet living in Harlem. You are living during the Harlem Renaissance.  Your poetry has and is influenced by people and events of the time.  You  are friends with Langston Hughes , Countee Cullen, and Zora Neale Hurston. Your poetry is primarily influenced by the poems of Langston Hughes.    You decide to write a poem about the  Harlem Renaissance based on Langston Hughes poems.

The Process

You  will complete the following steps:
  1. You will read about Harlem 

  2. You will read about the Harlem Renaissance
  • *** At this point STOP and write approximately three sentences describing the Harlem Renaissance.  Please post your description to the Discussion Section of  eschool builder under your name.
  1. You will read about people and events from the 1920's-30's
  2. You will read about Langston Hughes , Countee Cullen, and Zora Neale Hurston
  3. You will read at least 5 poems written by Langston Hughes
  4. You will write a poem about the  Harlem Renaissance and post it to the Discussion Section of eschool builder under your name.  Also, you will post the same poem to your web page.
