Introduction

This unit explores nutrients and benefits  in everyday foodThe sixth grade Health and Consumer  Science classes will host a Guest Luncheon.

The Task

Your task is to complete a creative art assignment in the form of a placemat for use at the Guest Luncheon. This is a research, writing, and art assignment that includes the use of  magazine pictures, drawings, and clip art.  Pictures will be glued to a 12 x 18 piece of oaktag and then covered in a plastic wrap.  Be creative! You can give the finished placemate either to your guest or you may use it.  Select one of the following formats: cover of a magazine, poster, or collage.

The Process

 The following information should be included on your placemat:
 
Title 
Identify each of the foods being served.
List the 3 main nutrients in the foods being eaten.  (Do not use any numbers only the names of the nutrients.)
In a short paragraph, explain why the meal you served is nutritious.

This web site is a great place to go to find food IMAGES.  Food images are listed alphabethtically.  Select the  image you want and follow the following steps:
  1. left click on the desired image
  2. right click on the food image
  3. click on view image-a smaller image will appear
  4. finally, go to File (on the toolbar) and print.

  • Enter Name of the Food
    • This takes you to the food list
    • Look at all the nutrients

Conclusion

Click on Grading Rubric to view how you will be graded on this assignment.  You will receive a letter grade for the assignment.  You will work in the computer lab to get information and then you will be given several days to work on it during D Block in the library, the computer room,  or at home.  The due date will be announced in class.
