College Planning
SHS college counseling services are part of the developmental guidance curriculum and include both classroom presentations and individual counseling sessions. Matters such as course planning, extra-curricular development, and summer plans are discussed as significant prerequisites to the college exploration and application process.
We encourage students and parents to begin the process of developing concrete post secondary plans as soon as possible and to access guidance services and resources throughout this process. We have listed below a number of sites that can help in your plan development as well as a copy of the SHS College Handbook that we distribute to all juniors annually. The information aenteredbout each site was culled from the individual web site and allows each company to share the mission of its group. Many of these sites offer similar information, but each student usually has a preference as to which site is best.
You should also be aware that most colleges have individual web sites that can be accessed by using a search engine (i.e. Google.com) and entering the school's name. Additionally, a significant number of colleges allow students to apply online. If you choose to apply online, remember to complete the application package by printing off the signature page, signing and mailing it into the college (if required), and getting guidance to send in a transcript of your high school grades as well as a copy of your SAT scores. Failure to do this will result in an incomplete application packet and may delay your acceptance.
