Planning for life after
high school is a challenge that all students face. The path you
decide to take upon graduating from Stafford High School will impact
choices you make today, from the courses you take to the activities you
participate in.
Guidance counselors work with students to support them in developing
post-secondary plans in several ways. Classroom and assembly
presentations are given about the different options available for
students upon graduation. Mini-lessons are delivered in homerooms
that deal with a particular aspect of post-secondary planning.
And individual counseling sesions are conducted with students, with
counselors also able to meet with parents throughout this process.
There are three general areas in which a student can explore and begin
to make their post high school plans: college (four- or two-year
schools), the military, or career. Usually these areas
overlap. After graduating from college or finishing your military
enlistment, you would begin your career. Or, you would complete
your military enlistment, and then go to college. Sometimes
students choose to pursue college after they have been in the
work-force for a short period of time.
In today's world, post-secondary education (college) is more important
than ever. There are colleges and Universities that are a good
fit for everone, but it does take planning and thoughtful exploration
in order to find that perfect college for you. Please feel free
to contact your counselor to discuss and start making your post high
school plans!
