Morning Meeting
Our class has morning meeting
every day. Our meeting consists of
a message from me, sharing, read-aloud, and other activities (depending
on the day and how much time we have).
Morning
Message - Each morning, the students come in and read a message from
me. The message includes information about activities for the
day, friendly reminders regarding behaivor or classroom procedures, and
directions regarding morning work.
Sharing - Each student has a
specific day that they are free to share a special object or story with
the rest of the class. They are then allowed to pick three other
students to ask questions or give comments.
Read-Aloud - Our class always has an ongoing read-aloud book.
This is a way for me to model proper fluency and monitor
comprehension. It is also a positive way to get the students to
be excited about books and stories. Some of our favorite authors
are Beverly Cleary, Roald Dahl, and Judy Blume. Once the students
hear one book from an author, it encourages them to read more from that
series or author.
