of the Mountain.

into. Click on the project name for more detailed

Brochure
- This is a travel brochure that will encourage people to
visit Sam's mountain home and explore his environment. The
following are required and suggested sections for your brochure:
Description of Area
On
one of your brochure folds, you should have a written description of
the
setting. Be sure to make the setting
sound desirable to your visitors!
Also
in this section you need to include any background information about
the
history of the area and how it came to be this way.
Who originally settled here? What happened to
them? Who manages the land now?
If
you don’t know all of this, it’s okay to make something up about the
land's
past, present, and future!
Description of Area Attractions
In
the inside section of your brochure, you are free to make up anything
you want
about activities and attractions to see.
However, you should put a
labeled map of the area somewhere inside the brochure.
This will help people locate each area you are describing.
Example:
- Hemlock Hotel – stay in this cozy, one-room
tree house for the night or rent it for a week. Be
careful though – visitors may pop in uninvited!
- Meadow -
Be
sure to make your descriptions match the book as much as possible, but
don’t be
afraid to use your imagination too!
Tours Offered/Organized Events
- In
this section, list activities that tourist could participate in while
visiting your
setting.
- Include
any tours you may offer here and what each tour consists of, prices,
etc.
Places
to Eat
- Describe the local dining areas.
- Include the atmosphere, food
choices, and prices.
Anything you Want
- Use any extra space for any
additional information
you want to add to make your vacation spot a must see!
Some suggestions:
- advertisements
- pictures of local
wildlife/landscape to see
- "About the Owner"
spotlight
3-D Map
Requirements:
- Accurate
map of the setting.
- Use information from
the book to create a model
that is similar to how the setting is described in the story.
-
Labels
for each section of the map (Minimum of 8 sections)
- Label the
important areas of your map. Include a detailed
paragraph, for each
area, explaining why that area is important or how the main character
used the
area. Use specific information and examples from the story in
your description.
Have
fun and put effort and
creativity into this
project!
"How To" Book
Requirements:
- The
“How To” book or survival guide should have situations that were
actually in
the book you read.
- The
solutions should also be similar to how the main character in the book
handled
the situation.
- Minimum
of 8 "How To's". These must be explained clearly and a
step-by-step process described when necessary (examples: making acorn
pancakes, creating traps, making a deer skin suit, using hunters, etc.).
- Detailed
pictures or diagrams to go with each page.
Scrapbook
Requirements:

found in nature that the main character used to survive (acorns, roots,
etc.)
and the pictures should relate to events in the story.
- Each
page should have a paragraph explaining the objects or pictures on the
page. The paragraph should reveal the
objects importance or how it was used in the story.
The writing should also include the thoughts
and emotions of the character.
- Be
sure your book is neat, organized, and relates to the events in My Side of
the Mountain. Remember this is a
scrapbook created by the main character, so as you create it you will
write
using first person narration.

Reel
Requirements:
The movie must have at
least 8 frames. (Pictures)
Your
“movie” could include one of the following ideas:
- An
important event or exciting scene.
- A
short summary of the entire book.
- A
movie about the main character (Biography highlighting Sam’s knowledge
of
survival).
The
final
movie needs to tell a story. With each
frame should be a short paragraph that describes

will also act as your script.
