Students will explore a variety of approaches to drawing from created and natural environments. Students will develop a method of handling any given media to suit the individual's own expressive needs. It should also be noted that the use of good design must always be considered, and acquiring a sensitivity for composing a picture while developing drawing skills is expected. Using original designs developed in this course, students will explore the creative possibilities of block printing, silkscreen printing, and other various printing processes. It is expected that the students will learn the proper use and care of all the tools and equipment used in each process. Throughout this program, students are expected to develop a historical perspective by studying the growth of artistic styles and the artists who created these styles. This course is open to students in grades 9-12 who have passed Basic Design with a 70 average or the consent of the instructor.

3-D Art

The process of construction, decoration, firing, and the wide range of creative possibilities using clay are explored. The students will be made aware of the unlimited possibilities of expression in ceramics and sculpture. Proper use and care of all tools and equipment are expected. Each student will explore these and other media: clay, plaster, wood, and papier mache. Throughout this course, the student is expected to develop an historical perspective by studying the growth of artistic styles and the artists who created the styles. This course is open to all students in grades 9 -12. There are no prerequisites.

Students will further develop their abilities to create visual organization and to communicate ideas through the use of creative problem solving. The course will help the student refine uses of the elements and principals of two- dimensional design. A variety of media will be used. Each student will develop a method of handling any given media to suit an individual's own expressive needs. It is expected that everyone will fully utilize the information learned in Basic Design. This course is open to all students in grades 10-12 who have passed Basic Design with a 70 or better average or the consent of the instructor.

Students will explore the basic principles and elements of two-dimensional design for the purpose of developing visual organization which is necessary for the communication of ideas visually. A variety of media will be used and each student will develop a method of handling the media which best suits an individual's own expressive needs. Only those students who have passed Basic Design with a grade of at least 70 may continue in the high school art program. This course is open to students in grades 9 through 12. There are no prerequisites.
Independent Study
basic design advanced design 2-D art 3-D art painting AP art history independent study portfolios Independent study is offered to any student who has completed all art courses offered in any particular specialized area. A student may earn up to one full credit yearly by taking an independent study. Forms may be picked up in guidance and filled out prior to taking the course. This course is open to students in grades 10 through 12. Prerequisites to this course are Basic Design and the related specialty course.
Painting

Emphasis in this course will be equally divided between water color an acrylic techniques of rendering, in a creative manner, a variety of subject matters including: stilllife, landscape, portraits, abstract, and animals. It should be noted that the use of two-dimensional design must always be considered and acquiring a sensitivity for composing a picture while developing painting skills is expected. Throughout the program, the student is also expected to develop an historical perspective by studying the growth of artisitic styles and the artists who created these styles. This course is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Prerequisites are Basic Design or the consent of the instructor.
