Areas of Concentration


General Policies

Homework: Homework will be assigned when new units of study are covered. During the course of the year, more assignments are given at the begining of a course and fewer assigned toward the end of the courses. If students fail to pass in a homework assignment on time, late homework will receive a grade of 50%. Homework will not count more than 25% of the quarter grade and may count for less depending on the number of assignments given during any one marking period.

Classwork: Classwork will be any projects that are completed during the daily class period. Classwork will not count for less than 50% of the quarter grade and may count for more depending upon the amount of homework assigned and number of tests administered during any one marking period.

Tests: Test will be given at various times throughout each course. Tests will not count for more than 25% of the quarter grade and may count for less depending on the number of tests given during one marking period.

Make-up work

Homework: It is each students responsibility to ask for make-up work upon returning from an absence. Students are given one night to make up any missed homework unless special arrangements are made between the student and the teacher. Late homework may be assigned  a grade of  50% of the earned score.

Classwork: Students may make-up missed classwork; before school from 7:00 a.m. to the beginning bell, after school, or during a study hall. Students wishing to make-up work during a study hall need to get a pass from Mr. DeCarli.

Tests: It is each students responsibility to ask for make-up work upon returning from an absence. Students that miss a test are given one week to make arrangements for making up the missed test. After that one week period, if no arrangements for the make-up have been made, a grade of zero may be assigned

CAD I

Class Activities and Homework
CAD, computer aided drafting/design, is the process used to design every man-made object that we use on a daily basis. Key elements of the course will focus on problem solving and visualization of 3-dimensional geometry. Students will complete a series of sketches, instrument drawings, and computer aided drawings. This course is appropriate for students planning to pursue careers in engineering, architecture, graphic design, manufacturing, the building trades, or related fields. This course can be counted for the graduation requirement of PC Applications. Open to students in grades 9-12. Prerequisites: none.

Architectural Drawing

Class activities and Homework
This course will focus on developing a set of working drawings for a structure. Students will study the design process making sure that the form of their structure fits its intended function. The process will begin by sketching, developing room plans, floor plans, wall sections, elevations, details, and a plot plan. This course is appropriate for students planning to pursue careers in engineering, graphic design, the building trades, or related fields. Open to students in grades 11, 12. Prerequisites: none.

Graphic Design

Class activities and Homework
The students will receive basic instruction in the four areas of graphic reproduction; design and layout, image generation, pre-production and production, and binding and finishing. Students will use CorelDRAW to design a variety of projects such as cards, letterheads, product packaging, advertisements, and photo retouching using Photoshop. Students will assist in printing and production applications for the Stafford Public Schools. This course can be counted for the graduation requirement of PC Applications. Open to students in grades 10-12. Prerequisites: none.

Web Development

Students will discover how to create and edit web pages with Notepad entering basic HTML code. Some of the topics that may be covered are: formatting text, creating/editing images, creating links, tables, frames, and style sheets. Students will also use Macromedia Studio MX to create web pages "on the fly," animation, and movie clips, using Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, Freehand 10, and Fireworks MX. Other software that may will be available includes: Photoshop, and CorelDRAW. Open to students in grades 11-12 Prerequisites: none.

Video Communication

Class activities and Homework
The focus of this course will be on video production as a means of communication. Topics covered will include; video composition, production planning, camera systems, the use of a variety of digital and analog video equipment, and linear and non-linear editing. Students will produce several video projects. Open to students in grades 11-12. Prerequisites: none
