Academic Expectations
Tests
- Tests will be given at the end of each chapter or unit.
- All tests will be announced at least 2 days prior to the testing
date.
- Tests must be made up within 1 day of an absence or at the
discretion of the teacher.
Written Assignments and Lab Reports
- All written assignments will be typed and references cited if
applicable.
- Higher level inquiry and analytical thinking should be evident.
- Lab reports will follow laboratory format (refer to lab report
format handout).
- Lab reports will be graded using a rubric (refer to lab rubric).
- Grade deductions for improper use of grammar, spelling and use of
pronouns.
- Late or untyped
papers will not be accepted.
- Lab make-up scheduled on Monday
of the following week only.
Alternate assignment may be given at the discretion of the teacher.
Quizzes
- Quizzes will be given at regular intervals. They may or may
not be announced.
- Quizzes that are lab practical in nature will be announced at
least 2 days in advance.
- Quizzes may not be made
up if a student is dismissed early without
prior approval from the instructor. Quizzes missed due to absences
must be made up the following day unless prior arrangements have been made.
Homework
- Homework will be checked for completeness (honest attempts to
complete especially if the concepts are difficult).
- Homework will be graded as done or not done (checked) or
numerically graded.
- Homework is due at the beginning of class and will not be accepted
late. Make-up assignments are due the day after the student’s
return. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher
for missed assignments before or after school. Class time
will not be allotted for individual inquiry.
Notebook
- 3-ring binder required. Organization of notebook is prescribed (notebook
organization).
- Notebooks will be checked periodically and graded.
Classwork/Participation
- Class participation and attentiveness are expected at all times.
- Student must be prepared for class with textbook, writing utensil
and notebook.
- Late entry to class, frequent absences or dismissals will result
in point deductions.
- Appropriate behavior and self-control is expected at all
times.
