


SCIENCE CLASSROOM AND LABORATORY
SAFETY RULES
Ms. DeSantis
I take safety issues very seriously. Please review the following science classroom and laboratory safety rules. It is important that you understand these rules and my expectations for proper behavior. Failure to comply with these rules will result in severe disciplinary action.
1. No horseplay or running in the laboratory.
2. No eating or drinking in the laboratory.
3. No open toed shoes will be worn in the laboratory.**
4. Report any incident, accident, injury or unsafe procedure to the teacher immediately.
5. Use the science lab for authorized work only.
6. Remove contact lenses and use safety goggles, lab aprons, and gloves when instructed.
7. Know the location of the fire extinguisher, eyewash, safety shower and fire blanket.
8. Alert the teacher of any fire and follow the school policy for fire evacuation.
9. Place any broken glass and disposable materials in their designated containers.
10. Handle all chemicals carefully, checking labels carefully before removing contents.
11. Never taste or directly smell chemicals.
12. Never return unused chemicals to containers.
13. Use proper equipment and techniques for conducting any laboratory investigation.
14. Tie back long hair, remove dangling jewelry and roll up long sleeves.
15. At the end of the lab period, clean work area, wash and store all equipment, turn off gas, water and unplug electrical appliances.
16. Before conducting any investigation, listen to all instructions. If you are unsure or did not hear the instructions, ASK.

**Students who do not wear proper foot attire will be removed from the
laboratory and will be responsible for making up the laboratory investigation
on the make up lab day after school. Failure to do so will result in an automatic
zero.
