Honors 11

Rules of the classroom

1. All textbooks and vocabulary books must be covered within 48 hours of the beginning of the course. Covering books really helps to prolong the life of the book.

2. All students should have a special binder and/or notebook for any sheets handed out during the course. Your midterm and final exams will cover all material we go over, so keeping all material is important. An assignment notebook is also recommended.

3. Students can be quizzed on homework or class work anytime. Quizzes do not have to be announced.

4. Quizzes are divided into categories - literature, vocabulary et al. The average of each category will count as a test grade at the end of the quarter.

5. Homework will be accepted on time. Late and/or incomplete homework will not be accepted.

All homework counts as a test grade at the end of the quarter.

6. When you get a syllabus for a novel, you responsible for the chapters on the dates shown. An absence the day before a chapter is due does not excuse you from the assignment. You are also expected to do the homework that was due while you were absent.

7. All homework (except for vocabulary) must be in complete sentences. Incomplete sentences will receive no credit. Also, do not write in weird colored inks. Please stick to black or blue.

8. The English department is encouraging all students to type their outside writing assignments.

If you do not have a computer at home, then there are school computers that are available for your use. Essays in pencil will never be accepted.

9. Whenever a student is absent, they are responsible for making up missed work. All missed work (quizzes, tests, etc.), must be made up immediately, or they will receive a zero. Any homework assignments that were due must be turned in the day the student returns to school. If you have not made up missed work within one week of an excused absence, it becomes a zero.

10. When a class is missed, a student must have an excused absence note handed into the office in order to make up a missed assignment, quiz or test. Please bring the note the day you return and make arrangements that day to make up the work you missed.

11. You must bring all necessary folders, books, homework, vocabulary books (on Friday), pens, etc. to class. No one may go to a locker or leave the class at all during the period. Homework left in a locker will receive a zero. Please do not ask to be an exception to this rule.

12. In all classes, a vocabulary quiz will be given every Friday. To receive credit for the vocabulary quiz, the missed words must be written out with their definitions by the next quiz. When a rewrite is not handed in, the quiz will receive a zero. (You will receive a separate handout about vocabulary corrections.)

13. If you are found cheating and/or plagiarizing anytime during the year, the student will be dealt with in accordance to the Stafford High School policy on cheating/plagiarism.

14. Notes from parents, (unless an unfortunate family emergency occur) will not be accepted. Do not ask me to honor notes from your parents because you lost power, or your family pet was sent to the veterinarian (etcetera). Any questions, please ask them now.

15. When instructions are given, orally or written, it is your responsibility to pay attention. If you lose points for not following directions on a writing assignment because you were not listening while I was giving the directions, then you will not receive the credit. No excuses. There will always be a handout when a writing assignment is given.

16. If your family is planning a vacation that is not during a school vacation and you will be missing class, then it is the students’ responsibility to speak to the instructor BEFORE your departure to make arrangements for your missed work and quizzes.

Let’s have a good year together. We will work hard but the results will be fabulous. I am here before and after school for your convenience. Do not be afraid to ask questions and strive for A+++++.
