NATURAL  HISTORY

wrwr

What we are doing for the first three weeks of this class, we are making a major emergency shelter which will hold the whole class plus guests from the wind and the rain.  We are working on the concept of team work, and construction.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR NATURAL HISTORY

1. We go outside everyday, unless there is lightning so be prepared to take part in this class.

2. Proper clothing is a must.  I expect you will wear a raincoat in the rain.  For any real cold and snowy day,  you are expected to be dressed in a hat, gloves, boots, and a good winter coat.

3. The room has some extra clothing but not enough for the complete crew, you can borrow them in an emergency.

4. Failure to go outside will result in a deduction of your final grade by 5 points for every class missed.  If you are sick and you cannot come outside then you will have to spend the period with the nurse or a deduction will come into effect.

5.  Your grade is determined by three ways, each day you receive from 1-50 points for behavior out in the field.  You are also required to write a daily journal entry and that will be graded 1-50 points to get a daily grade.  You earn 5 points per line for your write ups.  You will also have a final practical hands on examination in this course and it will count as 20% of your overall grade.

6.  You are required to get your daily write up into my classroom by the end of the day so I can correct it.  I give at least 5 minutes to do your writing in class usually.  If you pass it in late you may be penalized.

7. In your writings I will take off for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, indenting  ( 5 spaces for each paragraph).

8. Be on time for my class.

9.  This class entails you learning to work in teams at times.  If you do not like someone on your team "suck it up and deal." Your daily mark is based on your effort and behavior.

10.  There are times when you will be doing individual projects and I  will be grading on effort and outcome.  You are not competing against your classmates, but you will be judged on effort.

11. Trust is the main focus of this class. I have many students in this course and I need to trust you to behave in this class.  If you are caught smoking outside in my class you will be turned into the office.  You will receive the punishment in the student handbook, and you will meet with the principal and myself to determine if you will remain in my class.

12. This class is a fun and exciting hands on experience.  I hope you all will enjoy this experience, and become expert  "Stafford Woodchucks" just like the past classes became.  You will also be given the opportunity for leadership during this class.  You may be the chairman of the group or the whole class  Leadership, responsibility, and teamwork are an integral part of the course.
