Welcome!!  I am very proud to be your teacher and look forward to having a great year!! Please read the following handout as it will provide you all the information needed for class.

Classroom Policies

Your student handbook will act as a guide for you and you should follow it at all times.  Beyond the points identified in the handbook, I expect from each one of you the following:

Materials Required

·          Pencils

·          3 Ring binder (1 ½”) with 4 sections, or a sectioned notebook and folder

o         Bellwork/Notes - Dated

o         Homework

o         Tests/Quizzes/Projects

o         Journal

·          Covered Textbook (Textbook Provided)

Grading Rationale

Your grade for this class will be based on the following:

            Tests/Quizzes   70%

            Homework          15%

Journal              10%

            Participation      5%

Tests will always be announced in advance.  You MUST make up a test with me after school within 1 week of your return to school or it will become a zero.

Quizzes – Most quizzes will be announced.   Occasionally you will have notebook checks which will combine for a quiz grade, so keeping your notebooks complete is critical.  Quizzes also must be made up after school within 1 week of your return to school or it will become a zero.

Class participation is not just how often you volunteer to answer questions – this grade will also be based on your work in group settings, your willingness to work through topics you may find difficult, your daily preparedness, and how much effort you put forth in class.

Homework – Everyone starts of with 2 grades of 100 for homework for the quarter!!  Homework is due on its due date, usually the day after.  It will be checked daily but not necessarily collected.  It is graded as follows:

5 points

Student has attempted all problems and shown all work

4 points

Student has attempted most problems (one or two might be missing) and has shown all work

3 points

Student has attempted half of the problems or has attempted most problems but has not shown work

2 points

Student has attempted very few problems without showing work

1 point

Student has included only answers with no work

0 – no credit

Student did not complete assignment

Journals – Periodically we will be having writing prompts.  These are to be kept in your notebooks and will be graded.

Projects – Projects will be given throughout the year.  Most projects will count as either a quiz or a test grade and you will be notified upon assignment of their worth.

PROCEDURES

Tardies – If you are late to class, please enter the room quietly, place a pass on my desk, and begin working quietly.  You are responsible for any work done prior to your arrival.

Absent – If you are absent, go to the “Absent” binder to get any worksheets needed as well as checking the homework.  You are responsible for work due during your absence and it is due within a week of your return.  If you are absent the day before an announced test or quiz, you must still are expected to take the quiz/test as scheduled.

Homework – You will have your homework out when the bell rings.  Answers will be given and I expect that you will correct your homework.  I will take questions on homework.  If no one has any questions, I may assume that you understand the content completely.

As the bell rings – Please be in your seat, with your homework on the corner of your desk and working on the Bellwork on the board.

It is my job as your teacher to maintain an environment free of disruptions.  Let’s work together to have a great year!!

Please feel free to contact me or meet with me if you think that I could help your success in my classroom differently.  For example, if your seat assignment is really problematic for you, come see me and we can work out a different assignment.  I want us to work together!

Once again, WELCOME!!
