COURSE TITLE:
Technology in Action

INSTRUCTOR:
Miss Orlando, Room 7
Stafford High School

COURSE DESCRIPTION:    
This course is designed to augment the student’s computer abilities while providing them with the skills necessary for interacting in a business or workplace environment.

Topics to be covered include:

• Use of the computer to achieve student academic success and promotion of critical thinking skills, and the Internet as a research tool.
  
• Working within a Windows/Server environment.
  
• Using Microsoft Word to create, edit and print documents.
  
• Entering information to create formulas and charts in Excel.
  
• Employing PowerPoint create presentations.
  

Class assignments will consist of individual assignments or group projects.

STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR:    
1. Students are expected to sit at their assigned computer for the start of the class.  Attendance will also be taken at this time.  
2. Computers will not be accessed until the assignments and directions are given.
3. If you wish to speak, raise your hand and wait to be recognized.  If the public address system is on, you are required to remain quiet.
4. Passes will be given from class with discretion.  Abuse or misuse of a pass will result in a detention.
5. Students will work independently unless directed otherwise by the instructor.  Copied work will result in loss of credit for both the copier and the person who did the work originally.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:    
Students must have the following at each and every class session:  a sharpened pencil, a black or blue pen, eraser, and a notebook/binder.

GRADING:
Student’s grades are based on the following:

1. Classroom Assignments and Quizzes                90%
2. Computer Upkeep/Responsibility                       5%
3. Attendance/Participation                                    5%

TOTAL                                                             100%    

In the event of absence or extenuating circumstances, the student must make the work within (5) days.  Any work not completed in a timely manner will result in a lower grade.

CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE:    
You will be asked to stop disruptive behavior once.  Two detentions will be issued if the behavior continues.  In addition, a phone call will be made to your parent/guardian so that they are aware of your behavior and the action taken.
