COURSE TITLE:
Photography

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course offers students the opportunity to learn about photography
using a digital camera. Students will learn about the history of
the development of photography from its prehistory through today.
Additionally, the course will cover the interrelationships between
photography and the other visual arts, as well as the effects of
changing technologies on the photographic image and the contributions
of major photographers and art movements.
Topics to be covered include:
- History of photography
- Social History
- Popularization
- Economic History
- Digital photography
- Commercial photography
- Terminology
- Photography as an art form
- Aesthetic realism and photography
- Reference
Class assignments will consist of individual assignments or group
projects.
STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR:
1. Students are expected to sit at their assigned seat for the start of
the class. Attendance will also be taken at this time.
2. If you wish to speak, raise your hand and wait to be
recognized. If the public address system is on, you are required
to remain quiet.
3. Passes will be given from class with discretion. Abuse or
misuse of a pass will result in a detention.
4. Students will work independently unless directed otherwise by the
instructor.
5. Anything that is NOT your original
work will result in loss of
credit.
6. Notebooks, workbooks and textbooks will be inspected with or without
announcement.
7. Assignments meant for homework are to be done as such; work not
completed for the next day’s class will result in a zero.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Students must have the following at each and every class session:
course textbook, a sharpened pencil, a black or blue pen, eraser,
notebook/binder, your digital camera or one signed out from the
Business Department.

PROCEDURE
- All students using equipment from the
SHS Business Department must
return a Camera Sign-Out Sheet.
- Any student using cameras or
accessories without consent will be
subject to disciplinary action.
- A student may only use their own
cameras or those loaned from SHS
Business Department.
- A student will forfeit the privilege
of using equipment if he/she
signs out equipment and lets another student use it who is not part of
the Photography course.
- The student signing out the equipment
is responsible for the care and
return of it.
- The use of the equipment is for
required classroom activities only;
any images taken must be suitable for presentations in school.
- Equipment is not for use in
capturing dangerous or questionable
activities.
GRADING:
Student’s grades are based on the following:
1. Classroom Assignments and Quizzes
90%
2. Notebook
5%
3. Attendance/Participation
5%
TOTAL
100%
In the event of absence or extenuating circumstances, the student must
make the work within (5) days. Any work not completed in a timely
manner will result in a lower grade.
CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE:
You will be asked to stop disruptive behavior once. Two
detentions will be issued if the behavior continues. In
addition,
a phone call will be made to your parent/guardian so that they are
aware of your behavior and the action taken.
