Transportation
Transportation is a course of study
involving the way people and cargo are moved from one place to another.
We study the technological systems and how they relate to each form of
transportation.. We study and discuss the types and forms
of energy both renewable and nonrenewable, along with other forms such
as Hydroelectric, Geothermal, and Wind Energy. We learn about
Mechanical systems , the six simple machines , how they operate
individually and how every thing man has invented uses the principles
of these machines..We also explore Electrical and Fluid Power
Systems such as hydraulic principles and operations..We
study Transportation Systems, beginning with Land
Vehicles, Highways,Railroads, Underwater Rail Systems, Pipelines, and
other recreational land vehicles. We examine Water Transportation
and its History,to include Water Routes, Sea Lanes, and Inland
water ways. The students also learn the purpose and principles of Water
Transportation along with terms such as buoyancy, hull design
,displacement and draft. To complete water transportation we
study the various modes of water vessels such as barges, tankers and
ocean liners, along with a knowledge of the Support Systems, such as
Harbors, Ports, Docks, and Terminals. We then learn about Air
Transportation including the history of the airplane, modes of air
transportation, how a plane flies, and the support systems of Air
Transportation. To conclude our transportation course we
discuss Transportation now with the manned spaxe missions
and what does the future hold for them in Air Transportation.
This course was taught the first and second semester.
