WOOD I

Course Description: Wood I deals with the basic concepts of  wood working, mainly cabinet style furnishings  and simple furniture construction. We begin learning the various hand tools  and power hand tools  by name and how to safely use them . Then we introduce the power machinery and the processes performed  along with the particular safety rules of each . Project planning , layout , and construction techniques along with the finishing processes are discussed. Students will construct a beginning  project  using only hand tools to develop their skills in safe hand tool use . Then the students will develop a more advanced project  using  the power hand tools and other woodworking  machinery to experience the professional quality  and speed of accomplishment . Open to students in grades 9-12. Prerequisites : none. Recommend taking Mechanical Drawing  I  at the same time.

11/17/08 Students are progressing nicely on their CD holder Project. We are also learning how to use the router and the new sheet of learning this week is the Band Saw Parts, Safety, And how to use the machine we have  Last week we did  Chapter 30  and the students had to turn in their completed sheet on Friday for grade.
