PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS MUST HAVE A MASTERS DEGREE IN SCHOOL
COUNSELING
AND MEET CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AS DEFINED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT
OF
EDUCATION
The Middle School
Counselor:
- Provides transition
activities
between elementary and middle school and middle and high school.
- Counsels students in
groups
and individually, depending upon the nature of the concern.
- Participates with
school
staff as members of interdisciplinary teams.
- Serves as consultant to
teachers
and parents by providing information which assists in meeting student
academic
and emotional needs.
- Implements appropriate
classroom
lessons which target the academic, career and personal/social
development
needs of middle school students.
- Makes appropriate
referrals
for services within the school and community.
- Advises students
individually
on academic planning and goal setting.
