OCTOBER NEWS
We have received the results of the Spring 2006 administration of the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT). This year, the test was given in grade 3 through grade 8. Test results show positive, healthy trends at all grade levels, with each grade’s results building on those of previous grades. The results of the Spring 2006 administration of the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) given to all tenth graders have recently been received. These test results show the many strengths of our high school academic program and pinpoint some weaknesses. All test results can be viewed on the
District Data link.
We are also revisiting our plan for various crises, from natural disasters to armed intruders, at the school, district, and community level. While we do this yearly, there is a particular urgency this year as we read disturbing national headlines from schools throughout the country. Even though we cannot share all points of our crisis plan, I can tell you we are always learning from workshops attended, conversations with police, firefighters, and state officials and updating our plans accordingly. Just having the Alert Now parent notification system will be a big help. Lastly, we have been and will continue to hold lockdown drills in each school. State police will visit each school within this month to conduct an unannounced lockdown. They will assess the strong and weak points in each school following this exercise, and we will use this information to improve our procedures to make our schools as safe as we can.
