Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

What is Conjunctivitis?   It is an inflammation of the mucus membrane, which lines the eyelid. There may also be redness, a crust of sticky pus discharge, tearing, pain, itching, burning, sensitivity to light, and sensation of a foreign object in the eye. The causes of conjunctivitis can be bacterial, viral or allergies. Conjunctivitis usually begins in one eye and rapidly spreads to the other by contamination of towels, washcloths, or fingertips.  If caused by an infectious agent it can spread to other people by contact with discharge from the eyes or upper respiratory tract of infected people via contaminated fingertips or clothing.

If you suspect that your child may have "Pink Eye" please contact your doctor for confirmation.  Your child may return to school once he/she has been treated with an antibiotic for 24 hours.
