Medications
in School
It is required by state law and Board of Education policy that all
students who need medication in school must have a written order from
the child's doctor. This includes all prescription and over the counter
medications. Over the counter medications include, but are not
limited to, aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, antacids, cough drops
and topical ointments. If your child does need medication at
school, here are a few simple steps.
- Contact the school nurse so she can instruct you on how to
get the Doctor's order form.
- Please be aware that written orders must be renewed yearly
for medication prescribed for longer term use.
- All medications must be delivered to the school by a
parent/guardian or designated adult. CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO
BRING MEDICATION TO SCHOOL. Also all unused medication must be
pick up when the students no longer needs it or by the last day of
school.
- Medication must be in an original container from the
pharmacy.
- You will need to sign an authorization for the nurse to
administer medication, or in his/her absence, a school administrator or
certified teacher.
Please feel free to contact your School Nurse with any questions.
