SCHOOL-WIDE STUDENT RECOGNITIONS:




■ SHS Rotary Student Leader of the Month Award for the month of June has gone to Julia Luksha.

■Congratulations to Danielle Millar, Valedictorian for the class of 2008, and Megan Butler, Salutatorian.

■Over 120 students were recognized during the all academic awards on June 5th. It is with great pleasure that we are able to recognize those students who epitomize excellence in the areas of academics, sportsmanship, and leadership.

■ A luncheon was held recently with Dr. Fishman to honor the young ladies who worked on the St. Bernard Project in New Orleans during their April vacation. The group comprised of six juniors: Emily Maynard, Emily Bourque, Danielle Bourque, Alicia Dabek, Cassy Boudreau, and Katie Bradway. This group was chaperoned by Ms. Elisabeth Hamburg and Mrs. Marie McDonald. The girls also received a letter of commendation from Governor Jodi Rell.

■Congratulations to Mr. Shea and his environmental class in the Cool It Challenge program. This group won 3 major awards in the state campaign in the areas of Team Work, Collaboration and Ingenuity. They were awarded $3,000 which has gone into a general fund for future use by the environmental club for other green initiatives at the high school. This was a state contest, which focused on climate change awareness and student activism. Some of the class accomplishments included a Polystyrine Ban, a new recycling program at the high school, and there co-sponsoring of an environmental fair. Students also read daily environmental announcements and created informative environmental posters for the school.

■The sports awards banquet was held on June 10th in which all of the athletes were recognized for their roles on each team. The following students were recognized as scholar athletes for their ability to achieve academic excellence, while participating in interscholastic athletics during the 2008 Spring season. ■Congratulations to Patti Bogardus who was recently married on May 25h and became Mrs. Karabetsos. Best wishes to the Bride and Groom!
