ASSIGNMENTS FOR INCOMING 7TH AND 8TH GRADES
 2008 SUMMER READING

 **Each choice MUST include a brief written summary of the book.  (Include the book’s title, author, main characters, setting, the conflict and resolution.)** Select one assignment from the list below.

  1. Write at least 5 journal entries (minimum 100 words each) that one of the main characters from the book might write.
  2. Create four illustrations of important scenes from the book and include one written description for each.
  3. Create a newspaper article about an important event from the book.  Include a description of the setting and main characters.
  4. Write an interview with one of the main characters from the book.  Include at least five questions and answers.
  5. Design a book cover to illustrate the book.
  6. Create a brochure to advertise the book.
  7. Draw a map of the setting of the book.  Include a written explanation of the map (one paragraph in length).
  8. Rewrite the ending of the book.  (two typed pages-size 12 font)
  9. Write a response where you compare a character to someone you know.  Include specific details from the book. (one paragraph describing the character, one paragraph comparing the character to someone you know)
  10. Create a comic strip that shows an important scene from the story. (minimum five frames)
  11. Write an interview with the author of the story.  Include ten questions and comments the author would make regarding characters, plot and setting of the book.
  12. Write a book review.  Give your opinion of the book.

***It is expected that all work will be written NEATLY in blue or black ink or typed.  This assignment will be due on August 29,2008.  Late work will NOT be accepted.
