ASSIGNMENTS FOR INCOMING 6TH GRADE
2008 SUMMER READING

 **Each choice MUST include a brief written summary of the book.  (Include the book’s title, author, main characters, setting, the conflict and resolution.)**  Select one assignment from the list below.

  1. Write at least 5 journal entries (minimum 100 words each) that one of the main characters from the book might write.
  2. Create four illustrations of important scenes from the book and include one written description for each explaining that scene and why that scene had an impact on you.
  3. Create a newspaper article about an important event from the book.  Include a description of the setting and main characters.
  4. Create a brochure to advertise the book.
  5. Create a scrapbook from the point of view of a character in the story at least 5 pages.
  6. Rewrite the ending of the book.  (at least one page in length)
  7. Write a letter to the main character of the book asking questions or making complaints about the situations in the book.  (at least one page in length)
  8. Pretend you are a movie critic.  Criticize the book as if it were a movie.  Remember…criticism can be good!  (at least one page in length)

***It is expected that all work will be written NEATLY in blue or black ink or typed.  This assignment will be due on August 29,2008.  Late work will NOT be accepted.
