Here are some activities  that parent's could utilize to help them facilitate their child's literacy development.



                  1.   Read bedtime stories with your child every night.  Choose many different types of stories such as fairy tales, poems,                            realistic stories, etc.


              2.  Provide your child with different modes of writing.  Offer your child a variety of writing materials such as markers,                            crayons, paints. 

              3.  Use a calendar to mark special events.  For younger children you may wish to use pictures or stickers to mark these events.


              4.  Write notes to and with your child.  Notes can be written with pictures or the use of "kid writing" depending on the age                         of the child.

              5.  Assist your child in writing or drawing thank you notes, birthday cards , get well cards for friends and relatives.Set aside                     time to draw and/or write with the child.  Use a topic that interests the child.  Have the child read the story back to a                        family member.


              6.  Play a board game with your child that requires reading.  Incorporate words or pictures of familiar items.
